How It Works

What Our Fence Line & Property Line Clearing Process Is

Fence lines sit right where two properties meet, which means zero margin for straying across the line or bumping a neighbor's structure. Here is how we handle every run.

  1. 01

    Locate the Line

We walk the boundary with you to find survey pins, existing posts, utility pedestals, and any trees shared on the line.

  2. 02

    Set the Width & Scope

You choose the clearing width your fence installer or mower needs, and we put the footage and price in writing.

  3. 03

    Open the Corridor

We mulch the brush and saplings along the run, using hand tools next to standing fences, corner pipes, and utility boxes.

  4. 04

    Walk the Run

We walk the finished corridor end to end so you and your fence crew have a clear sightline from corner to corner.

Most residential fence lines in Charlotte are cleared in a single day, timed so your fence contractor can pull string and dig post holes right behind us.

Fence Line Know-How

Clearing Fence Lines and Property Lines in Charlotte

Preparing for a New Fence Installation

Fence installers price their work assuming they can stretch a string line from corner to corner and walk a post-hole auger down the run. When the boundary is choked with privet, briars, and volunteer saplings, the fence crew either charges a steep premium to hack a narrow path or asks you to have it cleared first. We open a clean, level-mulched corridor wide enough for their crew to set posts and hang panels without fighting brush, and wide enough for you to walk and maintain the fence afterward.

Reclaiming an Existing Fence From Brush

Left alone, volunteer cherry, mulberry, and privet sprout right in the two-inch gap along the bottom of a fence. Within a few years, woody stems push boards off the rails, weigh down chain-link top rails, and trap moisture against wood pickets until they rot. When a fence is still worth saving, we mulch the heavy brush parallel to the run and cut the stems growing against the panels by hand so the machine never touches your fence.

Taking Out Old Wire and Ruined Fencing

Sometimes the old fence buried in the thicket is past saving, and the goal is to clear both the brush and the sagging wire so a new fence can go up in its place. Never let anyone run a forestry mulcher blindly into woven wire, barbed wire, or chain-link; wire wraps the rotor in seconds and turns into a hazard. We locate the old line during the walk-through, pull or cut free the loose wire sections first, and mulch the brush cleanly.

Know Where the Property Line Sits

Boundary brush hides survey irons, concrete monuments, and neighbor landscaping. Before we clear a property line, we need to know where the line actually is. If you have a recent survey with stakes or flagged iron pipes in the ground, we protect every marker. If the corners aren't marked and the line is disputed or unclear, we can either stay well inside your known boundary or clear a narrow sightline for your licensed surveyor to shoot the line first.

Trees Growing Right on the Line

In older Charlotte neighborhoods, it's common to find a mature oak, pine, or cedar sitting squarely on the boundary line or within inches of where the new fence needs to go. We flag those trees during the walk-through so you can decide with your neighbor and your fence installer whether to jog the fence around the trunk, trim lower limbs for panel clearance, or have the tree removed.

Pasture and Acreage Fence Lines

On horse properties and rural acreage around the edges of Mecklenburg, Union, and Cabarrus counties, fence clearing is about keeping limbs off electric wire and keeping sightlines open along hundreds or thousands of feet of board or woven-wire fence. We clear a mower-width maintenance lane along the inside of the fence so you can check wire tension and mow the run with a tractor or zero-turn.

Why Us

Why Charlotte Homeowners & Fence Crews Call Us

Survey Pins Protected

Iron pipes and wood stakes stay in the ground where your surveyor put them, not buried or knocked out.

Ready for the Installer

We open a true working corridor so your fence crew can pull string and dig post holes without delay.

Neighbor-Considerate

The owner is on site keeping every cut inside your agreed line and off the neighbor's yard and fence.

Hand Detail Against Fences

Where brush is pressed against a good fence, we switch to hand saws and trimmers so panels aren't scarred.

Mulched Walkable Strip

Cut brush is mulched into a flat path along the line instead of shoved into a heap in the woods.

Priced by the Run

You get a clear written price for the agreed length and width before we unload a machine.

A good fence starts with a clean line. Whether you're putting up two hundred feet of privacy fence in town or opening half a mile of pasture perimeter, we clear the corridor cleanly and leave the boundary easy to see and maintain.

Questions

Charlotte Fence Line & Property Line Clearing FAQs

How wide of a path do you clear for a new fence?

For a standard residential fence install, most fence contractors want three to five feet of clear working room on your side of the line. On acreage or pasture fences where you want to drive a mower or UTV along the fence, we usually clear six to ten feet. You pick the width during the walk-through.

Do I need a survey before you clear my property line?

If the boundary is between two close residential lots and you aren't sure where the corner pins are, having the line marked by a surveyor first is the safest move. If pins are already in place, show them to us during the walk-through and we'll stay inside your side of the line.

What if brush is growing through my existing chain-link or wood fence?

We mulch the brush up to a safe margin along the fence, then cut the stems woven into the chain-link or pressed against the wood boards by hand. Stems thoroughly grown into chain-link fabric can be cut off at the base and left to dry out so pulling them doesn't stretch the mesh.

Will you remove the old fence too?

Tell us during the walk-through if there's old wire or broken wood fencing you want taken down. We can include pulling and staging old fence material in the written scope before we mulch the brush.

What about stumps right where the fence posts need to go?

A mulcher cuts saplings and brush flush with the ground, but roots remain in the soil. If larger saplings or trees sit directly on the post line, tell us so we can discuss stump grinding or pulling those roots so your fence crew isn't hitting wood with an auger.

Can you get equipment through a standard backyard gate?

Tell us the width of your gate when you call. If the opening is too narrow for our tracked mulcher, we can check whether a fence panel can be temporarily popped off or let you know how we'd approach the job.

Do I need HOA or city approval to clear a fence line?

Clearing brush along an interior lot line usually doesn't require a permit, though HOAs often require architectural approval for the new fence itself, and creek buffers or perimeter tree-save buffers on newer subdivisions can restrict clearing. Confirm any buffer or HOA rules with the city, county, or your association.

Can you trim overhanging tree limbs above the fence line?

Yes. As part of opening the corridor, we can limb up low branches within reach from the ground so they aren't resting on top of the new fence.

How much does fence line clearing cost in Charlotte?

Price depends on total linear footage, the width of the corridor, how dense and woody the overgrowth is, and how much hand work is needed around existing fencing. We give a firm written price after walking the line with you.
